• Hi,

Trying to decide whether to go Gravity or WP User Frontend. Both cost money to go with the custom taxonomy aspects etc.. so don’t want to commit without a bit of research.

Would like to go Gravity as it works well with our chosen theme. We need the ability to edit/update posts (your plugin does the trick for Gravity) according to the description & reviews)

Quick Q. The Custom Post Types plugin to Gravity Forms is reported to be broken in WP 3.9.1. Do you know whether there is a documented fix available and if so what is it please ? You mention your plugin is compatible with 3.9.1 and custom post type updating works ????

    Thanks
    Robin

I had not noticed that custom post types was broken in 3.9.1. In testing, it has worked fine for me, but I haven’t been using it extensively recently. It has worked for all of the stuff I used it for on 3.9.1, which is mainly testing forms to test this plugin…

I haven’t used WP User Frontend. I usually use Advanced Custom Fields to create back end custom fields and then I use its acf_form() function to add forms to the front end. I build all of my large-scale systems and apps that way. Also because ACF is very extendible, I can create my own custom fields for it (eg: a Vimeo uploader field). That is free for the base, but the current taxonomy solution is limited in that can only choose from existing taxonomy items and not create new ones.

Just noticed this over at Bradvin’s Themergency:

I will give it a go with 3.9.1 and see what happens.

Seems to work well. I’m trying to build a Dashboard of submitted news stories. Stories is a custom post type and I can make Gravity submit story fields to this custom content type with the ‘Gravity + custom post type’ plugin. The problem is that I must be able to have users return and edit their submitted news stories until they are published – I’m trying out Gravity View at the moment as a dashboard way of viewing their stories. It appears to look good but it won’t let me edit the posts of course.

I can view all the submitted posts and I think I can restrict them to the ones the person created (although not sure whether this will yet work without being logged in to WP), however, I need to find a way of being able to edit the submitted story in the front-end only.

Can anyone think of a way of doing this please ?

    Hey Robin,
We’re trying to do similar things as well. Did you ever figure out a solution?

This plugin allows users to edit their posts on the front end via Gravity Forms. Two other options, off the top of my head, are Advanced Custom Fields and some other plugins like WordPress Front-end Editor.

I appear to be making some progress with this. I actually bought both a Gravity and a Pro version of WP User Frontend Pro license and currently using WP User Frontend Pro.

I am still keen to figure out how to do everything I want with Gravity. I even tried the beta of a new plugin called “Gravity View” add-on but it still didn’t really do what I required whereas User Frontend Pro.

User Frontend Pro appears to cover 95% of what I need without any coding however I have been concerned with the code quality & testing.

    Robin,

I’m not sure if you are still looking for a suggestion… but here it goes.

If your site’s main goal is for users to create and edit posts on the frontend, you should go for WP User Pro.

Gravity Forms is great! It can work well with almost anything form related.. but for post creation and update, WP user pro does the job well and fast. It can also create user registration form without the need of addons, it’s a native feature of the plugin.

But if your site is mainly about creating complicated forms and maintaining entries of data submitted through the form, you should really go for Gravity. It’s the best form creation tool.

Thank you. Since posting this found ‘formidable forms’ and it ticks every box we need.
