Great concept but needs a better site editor

  • The concept behind this theme, which is that you can create your own look from the ground up is really good. Unfortunately it is let down by the site editor, which apparently is still in beta. A lot of things such as menus now can only be edited in the site editor. Things which should be easy, like adding an item to a menu end up being really hard because there is no obvious gesture to accomplish this. It also seems that there are things that cannot be done in the site editor unless you switch to code view. For example making a post featured image the width of the screen. I’ve also seen popup text hide the area that I am trying to work on.

    I really wanted to switch my site to this theme which looks like it would give me a lot of control. I chose not to do so because I don’t feel like fighting with the beta version of the site editor.

    Hi @cgoldthorpe I understand that it can be difficult starting out with this new theme and the site editor. There are articles which I had listed below which can be helpful:

    You should be able to increase the width in the visual editor if you are using the Post Featured Image block on the block toolbar you can increase the width to Full width as shown in the screenshot below:

    Thanks @thelmachido, that was very helpful. I had not realized that there were properties which could only be set on the block toolbar and not in the block properties section on the right. Finding the block inserter helped a lot also. It still feels like there are a lot of rough edges in the UI which make it hard for a new user. For example insert before and insert appear in the context menu for most blocks but not in the context menu of a Page Link Block or Post Link Block. I still can’t figure out how to add a submenu to a menu.

    The Post Navigation Link?block displays the post pages link navigation for the previous and next pages.

    If you want to create a menu I would suggest using the navigation block you can add a submenu to your site by following the steps in the article below:

    @thelmachido that does help, I would not have figured that out on my own. Maybe I will give the theme another try with my site.
