We had tried a couple of other approaches to building up a Test and Staging site, but these took a LOT more technical know-how than we could muster. This plugin is simple, easy to use, and effective. Instructions for use are straight-forward and devoid of cryptic lingo and references that require all sorts of searches, reading, and background to understand.

If we can make one suggestion. It’s not at all clear what goes on with any automated, outbound email from the Staging site to our subscribers. Searches have turned up little or nothing relevant that we could understand. Best we can tell from testing, automated emails for things like subscription renewals are NOT being sent – a very good thing for a Staging site. But not ideal. Ideally, all email should be redirected to an administrative account chosen when the Staging site is being deployed. Then we could know for sure what’s going on. As it is, all we can tell is that automated emails APPEAR to not be sent. But not all email is “blocked”. We can manually generate test emails that DO get sent from Staging. So, we’re left wondering what’s really going on and whether our users are going to get spammed by the Stating site at some point.

    Hi @kliffblack,

first of all thank you very very much for your great review. WP staging does not change the mail integration intentionally at all and does not handle the mail services. There are dozens of different plugins that are responsible for sending out mailings so this can not be handled automatically from wp staging.

I assume that the staging process changed a path in the email plug-in which you use for sending out your mailings. As you know WP Staging does a search & replace to adopt some paths to the staging site. That could explain why the emails are not sent out from the staging site. You could check the mail settings in the relevant plugin to see if that’s the case. I also highly recommend verifying that to ensure that your customers do not get these subscription emails at all.

    Cheers
    René
