Hi Vclze,
Every commercial WP plugin I’ve ever bought has worked the same way – i.e. after the period of access I’ve paid for ends, I can no longer download the software.
This is how WooCommerce (the most popular WP e-commerce plugin, and the one we use on updraftplus.com to sell our software) works – in fact, it doesn’t even have an option to work in a different way (or an extension to modify its behaviour, that I’m aware of). This is just the industry standard.
as they imply you will only
What does this refer to? This is worded quite loosely – something implies something, but you’ve not indicated what the problematic line is. What’s the line you’re referring to?
We’ve striven hard to try to make our product page as clear as possible, to avoid all such problems. On my reading, it states exactly what you do and don’t get very clearly; but, if it helps people, I would be glad to improve it. https://updraftplus.com/shop/updraftplus-premium/ . There’s even a multi-question mini FAQ on the product page to answer several questions about licensing – and a link to the pre-sales form for people to ask further questions in case something’s not clear. If we were trying to make something unclear, we certainly wouldn’t have put all of that in.
The reality is that you lose all access to UpdraftPlus premium entirely unless you continue renewing it every year.
After a year, you lose access to fresh downloads. Your installed versions aren’t touched at all, and can carry on being used for as long as you like. This is the same as every commercial plugin that has access to updates for a limited time, that I’ve ever bought.
Best wishes,
David
