Hello, I have very limited experience with WP and do not know much about coding and am hoping you can help me. I am a volunteer to work on website and I have created private forums and assigned group members to each forum. In each of the groups, I have given everyone the role of moderator, but in the WP users list they are listed as participants. In the forum settings I checked Administrators and Moderators to be notified by email for every new topic and reply that is posted. As the administrator, i have received an email, but no one else is getting emails. is there some other setting I need to be worried about? Also, how do I make sure that only the members of each group get emails for their assigned forum? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Hi Kade,

How did you specify moderators in each forum? bbPress Notify (No Spam) will use the roles set in each user’s profile under Admin -> Users. Also, this:

In the forum settings I checked Administrators and Moderators to be notified by email for every new topic and reply that is posted.

My plugin does not offer those options in the forum settings. Are you sure you’re using my plugin? Can you provide screenshots?

    Cheers,
    Vinny

Hi Vinny, Thank you for responding so quickly! How do I send you screen shots? I can’t seem to find where I can attach to this reply.

    Thanks so much!

You can try using Dropbox and posting the link to the image here.

Here is a dropbox link to the folder with screenshots:

Where did the Group section come from? If you go to Admin -> Users -> New User and look at the Roles, do you see a Moderators role? Are any of your users assigned to the Moderators role under the Admin -> Users screen?

I’m thinking there’s a disconnect between whatever provides the ‘Groups’ item and the actual WP roles.

The Groups section came when I installed BuddyPress plugin and then I installed bbPress because I read that this was the best forum plugin that works with BuddyPress.

All the way at the bottom of the Users screen, there is a place to select Forum roles. I added that screenshot to the dropbox folder.

But if I change everyone in each Private Forum, to Moderator, they get an email for every New Topic and Reply even if they are not a member of the group assigned to that Private Forum. I need to make sure that the Private Forums are just for specific group members.

Ok, that explains a lot. bbPress Notify (No Spam) was not designed to work with BuddyPress Groups – it works with WP Roles. I don’t know how much work it would be to modify it to recognize BuddyPress Groups, and I really have my plate full with paid projects right now.

As an alternative, you can try to use plugin User Role Editor to create and assign Moderator role to your moderators.

Oh, okay … I understand. Thank you so much for your help! I will try that. Do you have any plans on updating the plugin in the near future?

I’ve already extended it far beyond what I originally intended to (just filtering spam). I’m preparing to add an opt-out feature but so far there’s only been a single person showing interest enough to join the project notification mailing list.

I don’t know when I’ll have the time to do this, but you can try to get someone to hook into the recipients list yourself. The filters are bbpress_topic_notify_recipients and bbpress_reply_notify_recipients.

Thanks so much for what you’ve done already. And thank you for your quick responses.

    Cheers,
    Aimee
