Group publications by date, similar to posts archive

Is it possible for list of publications to be grouped in the same way as archived posts? For example, I want to upload monthly newsletters, and have them displayed in groups by year; so a “heading” of 2013 followed by 12 publications, then 2012 followed by the next twelve…
