Grouped product display order after upgrade

I have have an imporant grouped product with about 100 products. it is only useful when in alphabetical order. After upgrade the order has been lost. They seem to be in the order the product has been added. The menu order number in the advanced section of the product data page is still there but doesn’t set the order anymore. How can it be set?
