    Hi there,

I’m following the instructions in your definitive guide to Tag Manager: https://complianz.io/definitive-guide-to-tag-manager-and-complianz/
and I’ve downloaded and imported the json file you link to from that page.

When I try and publish my GTM container I get errors on the triggers – the error type is “Unknown variable name” and the description is “Unknown variable “Event” found in a trigger. Edit the trigger and remove the reference to the unknown variable.”

When I go in to edit the trigger (marketing, for example), I need to select which event equals cmplz_event_marketing – it gives me a dropdown of the cookies, or I can add a new variable or use a built-in variable.

I’m not clear on exactly what I need to do here – I’ve read over the instructions but they seem to suggest that if I import the container I should just be able to publish it as-is – are you able to offer any advice?

    Thanks!

    Hannah

    Hi @cogdiss,

It’s not an import and publish as is. It’s a selection of possibnle triggers, variables and templates you might use for your specific situation.

I understand what you mean regarding the dropdown, it’s a weird glitch. Let me have a look if I can make sure to remove this once and for all.

In the meantime, you could create a new trigger / custom event, cmplz_event_statistics and use ‘event’ as variable, with ‘equal to’ cmplz_event_statistics. This can then be used for all your statistics tags.

You can do this for cmplz_event_marketing as well.

I will have a look at the container.

Thanks for your feedback, regards Aert

    Hi Aert,

Thanks for your response. I’m still struggling to work out how I can set “event” as a variable in the trigger.

This is a link to a screenshot of the settings in the (Default) Trigger Statistics trigger that came with the import: https://drive.google.com/file/d/12Lre6_q28kXuqEDAZ5_0n7EJAIA0xBU7/view?usp=sharing

I’m unsure what I need to select in the first of the three boxes on the final row. There’s no option to just use “event” – do I need to use the “(Advanced) Cookie – Statistics” variable?

I tried setting up a new trigger but I run into the same issue. I watched the video on your help page but that first box was pre-populated with “Event” – which it looks like it should be in the import as well, but for some reason it’s not finding it.

    Thanks

    Hannah

    Hi Aert,

Sorry – quick follow-up – I found it! I had to go into built-in variables and then it wasn’t where I expected (it’s not in alphabetical order for some reason) but once I selected it for one of the triggers it auto-populated for the others.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi @cogdiss,

Great, that’s indeed exactly what you had to do. I was just about to take some screenshots to explain the process ??

In any case, glad to hear you’ve already resolved this in the meantime. I’ll mark the thread as resolved, but let us know if you have further questions about this.

    Kind regards, Jarno
