    Hi,

I’m setting up Google Tag Manager to record events on my site. I wish to record clicks on a FooGallery links to Revit files. I’ve set up the gallery to display a thumbnail of the file, the link opens a SharePoint location for the file to be downloaded. I’d like to find a way of recording how often and what pages my Revit files are clicked.

Aware I may need to go through my ‘Revit’ galleries to create some consistency for recording. I can’t seem to find a way of recording a custom class or anything that can be entered in the advanced options for each gallery.

    Thanks
    Chris

    Hi @chrispaterson

It may be possible to implement what you are describing, to some extent, using Google Tag Manager and look at the number of clicks on the Google Analytics dashboard.

We’re not SEO experts so I’d recommend you to consult with one over this, but looking into this, it is possible to track when a user clicks on the images in the gallery. Here’s a great guide that I found which will help you get started with this: https://www.lovesdata.com/blog/google-tag-manager-button-click-tracking
Another alternative guide is this: https://www.analyticsmania.com/post/google-tag-manager-click-tracking/

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,
    Elvis.

Thanks, I’ve got multiple galleries per product page and looking to record from only specific (‘Revit’) galleries – not all galleries. I’ve entered ‘RVT’ into the custom gallery class (in Advanced Settings) on the specific gallery I wish to record, however that doesn’t come through into the information that Google Tag manager records.

    Google element class record is ” gtm.elementClasses: “foogallery-thumb fg-thumb”, ”

Is there any other setting I can adjust to differentiate the class of specific galleries? i.e. element i.d. would be ideal and this doesn’t return a value in GTM.

    Thanks
    Chris

    Hi @chrispaterson

If you want to differentiate the class of specific galleries as you mention, there is the “Custom Gallery Class” option that you mentioned that each gallery has. You can add a unique class for each gallery that you can use and save changes. You can easily confirm that the custom gallery class has been added using the browser inspector tool.

You should first add the custom class to the gallery you want to use then follow one of the guides I shared above which easily explain how you can use that unique class to track when a user clicks on the images of that particular gallery.

Lastly, as I mentioned, you may need to consult a SEO expert who will assist you with setting this up in your Google Analytics dashboard once you have added the custom gallery class in case you are having any difficulties doing so.

    Kind regards,
    Elvis.
