    Hello,

For some weeks now, there have been many warning letters in Germany with content that is loaded from external servers. For the most part, everything would have to be loaded locally in order not to receive a warning.

I have now installed the GTRanslate plugin and have been using this very happily for a long time. How can I set it up so that it can also be used in accordance with the GDPR?

Please don’t be surprised: I have just deactivated the plugin until I know more about the risk.

    Thanks
    Marc

    Hi,

In our free version the plugin loads javascript library from Google servers and the content which needs to be translated is being sent to Google servers and translation is being loaded from the Google servers. I’m sure Google has multiple servers spread all over the world, but I believe it will be using the server closest to the visitor, so it is not guaranteed that the content will be loaded from Germany.

For our paid version we have servers in Germany and France, but if you turn on automatic translations the content which needs to be translated will travel to Google Translate servers (presumably located in EU) for translation and then it will be stored in EU.

    Thanks! ??

Thank you for the feedback. I use Real Cookie Banner, where you could also ask permission from the user for GTTranslate and the one with Google – unfortunately not in the free version and the other one is very expensive for a pure hobby website. Then we have no chance of getting this legally I suppose? Because any external linking unfortunately falls under the law if you don’t ask for it first.

    Stupid situation with our laws.

    Hi,

I cannot comment about it, sorry.

    Thanks! ??

Hi, is the plug in sending personal data from the user or only text? Kind regards Cay

@cakru It is sending text, but it does not mean that the text cannot contain personal information, especially when the user is logged in.
