Guests are not receiving email notifications

Guests are not receiving any email notifications.
The Hotel is receiving booking notifications though.We’re using version 1.8.1
(I know it’s outdated, but the manager prefers this version)strangely it only works when I fill in the hotel’s email address where the guests email should be…
Any idea’s?
