  • I select some text, click on “link” a pop up appear and there is no button to confirm the link, nor it s automatically save.

    I have my own issues with the UI, but this is not one of them.

    The text you selected was already a link, so no action is needed there. And even if this was not a link, if the selected text is a valid URL, clicking the link button automatically converts it into a link — and this state is retained (ie saved) when you unselect the text.

    In either case, if you want to change the link URL or anchor text, there’s a handy pencil icon to select end edit.

    if you don’t click on the popup the link will be not saved. So we are not skipping any clicks, just obfuscate some steps making it less easy to remember for the casual user.
    Either auto-link (without the need to confirm, thus saving a click) or make it clear you need to confirm the link.

    So while the gutemberg UI is more slick the UX is not.
    The classic editor was ugly but more usable / congruent (see video)
