Gutenberg and SO Page Builder issues
-
We all see the potential of underlying stack improvements of Gutenberg, but the new block ecosystem might still need years to evolve into something more useful that the one of a classic editor. This takes time.
As a heavy WP user, I’ve done my homework, I’ve read lot of things, tried lot of plugins and forced myself to use Gutenberg instead of classic editor to learn overcoming challenges the new way. But the fact is that Gutenberg editing experience just can’t compare to the Live editor one for the complex and large pages.
I have two problems with current SiteOrigin Page builder, which I want to share with you and hopefully you consider implementing solutions for them. First one is EXTRA important, while the second one just gets on my nerves, but I want to report it anyway, as I think it is a bug of some sort.
1. When Settings -> Page Builder -> Post types are unchecked
I think what is needed is “Edit with SO Page builder” button on each page/post/post type.
It should be there to activate the Page Builder inside Classic editor for that specific page, even if global options are set to use Gutenberg.I am forcing myself to use Gutenberg unless in hurry, but I still need the Page Builder functionality for all complex pages. I love the Live editor, as it is the most organised view possible. However currently there is a problem when I want to create a layout with the page builder only.
Right now the only thing I can do is to go to Page Builder Settings, set the post type to use page builder, then create the page, and then go back to page builder settings, turn off the builder for the selected post type.
This is far too many clicks.Using SO builder instead of Gutenberg on a specific page should be easier. and “Edit with Page builder” button would solve this. Elementor solved it like this too.
I understand there could be potential problem if there are already blocks on a page. This can be resolved with a fair warning. Or make such button visible only if there aren’t any non-siteorigin blocks on the page.- Just an idea.
2. When Settings -> Page Builder -> Post types are checked
When I create a new page and save an empty content (just to prepare the empty pages for demo navigation for example). When I try to edit the same page later, there is the block editor again instead of classic one and no way to convert it back. Why?Please don’t haste into replying to this, it is not something urgent, but please do share it and discuss it with the team. We really need the “Edit with Page Builder” button.
Thanks.
