• When adding an email with ‘mailto’ link, a tooltip pops up with my username. I never want this or use it… yet it forces itself to the front, is impossible to dismiss, and I’m constantly clicking on it by mistake, or in trying to dismiss it. If I click it, it replaces the email with my user mail.
It’s in the way of the context menu so makes selecting menu items impossible, AND if I press ENTER after typing the email – it has made itself focus, and so erases the email I just wrote and puts my user email in instead.
Now every time I have to enter an email I have to fight this stupid and unwanted pop-up.
It’s completely infuriating and I cannot work out how to get rid of it. Any help appreciated.

I can’t reproduce that on a “clean” WP site. Maybe a plugin or theme thing? . Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

OK, i see what you’re doing. I was using the “link” icon for the text. Yes, when I just type in “test@”, a choice appears as soon as I type the “@”. If I keep typing, then I can type the rest of the address (e.g., [email protected]), but it is not automagically made into a link.

Forgive me, but I didn’t post this so you could tell me you didn’t have a problem with it. I do…
This mess is what I’m talking about.

I can’t click most of the context menu, and end up clicking all over the place to get rid of this stupid prompt. It often obscures things and won’t disappear. It cannot be dismissed or suppressed. I’m working in normal flow and I find my email, and/or existing links have changed – because my instinctive click, or enter, has hit this pop-up.

For me, there should be a way of removing the prompt. I don’t want it, and god knows the mess clients will get into with it on hand-over – accidentally adding their login emails to pages.
I get that some board-meeting of geniuses decided this would be helpful – and I’m delighted you have no problems with it – but for me and I have to imagine others it is annoying clutter.

Anyway – is there a way to remove it, even an ugly admin hacky removal of the js or anything…

    Not that I’m aware of.
