• Gutenberg is a nightmare if you are accustomed to using standard editors and you have deadlines. I have been maintaining WordPress blogs for more than 10 years. And, I was a software developer doing everything from firmware to html and php programming. But to just drop in a buggy new platform that is not familiar to blog editors is a slap in the face to the users and it is a boondoggle. I takes a tool that any amateur can use (maybe a professional writer or editor) and forces them to do this grand learning project created to produce professionals who are specially trained to do ‘WordPress’. Maybe they can get better pay. Meanwhile, I will continue to use the classic editor for now but the themes will change and features we have come to rely on will be removed or become dependent on Gutenberg.
I feel really cheated because this isn’t what a blog is about and many professional blog administrators won’t like it either. It is a nightmare! and I’m sorry you did it because it looks like the end of the road for those who want to keep the editing separate from the platform. Very sad for open communications.

No one here has any problem with people disliking anything here. But when you start name calling then you’ve crossed a line and that’s not long tolerated. When you’ve demonstrated that you can remain civil then the moderation flag will come off of your account.

I think that Gutenberg was a nasty suprise for many people (including me).

My suggestion is that when now Gutenberg is bolted in WordPress as default, there should be an option to use an old editor as default too.

I agree with toppahattu. The plugin Classic Editor, though very good for being a plugin, is not quite the old editor. I cannot get it to accept certain things in the html. I write them in but after updating they are gone. I am a little frustrated and feel that I am being ‘forced’ to use Gutenberg, which I will not do. It’s a bit like when Microsoft brought out Windows 10. I fought it for a long, long time but grew tired in the end. Windows 10 is so controlling. But I will not grow tired this time, I will persevere with Classic Editor.

Gutenberg is innovative and I can see some possibilities for the future. It is difficult to implement it in an already standing Website. I have a niche Website, not a blog. It seems impossible to change 100 older pages as I add new pages with Gutenberg features. So, I’m left avoiding many of the new features in order that all my pages have a uniform look. Perhaps the Gutenberg learning curve has put me off too. I write when I have time–time is money for me.

The spelling and grammar checkers are gone. Chrome does some spell checking, but I’ve yet to teach it how to learn specialized scientific text or to work with mathematics. The absence of a grammar checker has been disastrous. I can write as well as most people, but double words creep in as well as more passive sentences than I prefer. The grammar checker is essential for me as I clean things up.

Gutenberg is an idea for a future site, not a current one. Hopefully, by then, the spell checker and grammar checker will have returned.

    Anyway, keep innovating.

I have just updated Gutenberg to the latest version and now can not access my admin at all. I get a fatal error page instead. See below. How do I get this resolved? This is very frustrating.
