• I’m not sure where to post this. Gutenberg plugin says to go here. This page says to go to the plugin. So I’m doing it to both.

This is a weird one. I upgraded this site to WordPress 5.0 no problem. I’ve been using Gutenberg for a while and am fine with it. The issue is in the WordPress dashboard; the site looks fine.

Well, on only one computer, when editing a page or a post, some of the Gutenberg blocks are behind the WordPress meta data etc. that is usually at the end of the page after Gutenberg. On 2 other computers, I can see all of the blocks, and when I add a block, the WordPress stuff moves down. On this one computer, which is the computer my client works on the most, this does not happen so he can’t get to most of his text.

Why would one computer not work correctly? And the dev site works on his computer, but the new live site does not. Both work on the other 2 computers. All 3 computers are running Windows 10.

There was no way I could figure out how to get screen shots, or explain this any better. I hope if makes some sense, and someone may have an idea for us.

    Thanks.

First, please make sure that your browser is up to date by visiting https://browsehappy.com/

If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.

If it is, please do these two things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

    2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

    James,

We did all of these steps, and it was quite an eye opener. We did this on a computer where Firefox is used as the default browser so we did not care what we deleted from Chrome. Chrome is the browser that the blog poster (my client) uses for this site.

Chrome was not up to date, so we updated it. Did not work.

Cleared all cache, cookies, and history. Did not work.

Deleted all browser extensions. Did not work.

    Then I thought:

What about the dev site? It turns out, the dev site does not work either.

So, what about Firefox, which is the browser I designed in.

So, I tried Chrome on another computer – no go.

Lo and behold, Firefox is fine!

All that said and done, it looks like Chrome is having an issue with Gutenberg, at least in my network.

Is there anything known with WordPress 5.0 and Chrome? My client is willing to use Firefox if he has to for his website, but obviously this should be solved. We’ll try next whatever you tell us to.

    Thanks for your help.

That’s weird, I’m not running into trouble with WordPress 5.0.1 using Chrome 71.0.3578.98 under macOS 10.14.2.

Which version of Chrome are you running, and under which operating system?

    (@nburgis)

Version 71.0.3578.98 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Windows 10, on one desktop and one laptop.

A very long time ago, I was a total Mac person, so it would not surprise me if it is a Windows thing.

    Thanks!

Hm, this could very well be a Windows thing. Do you have this problem on all of your other sites too, when no plugins are active and only the Twenty Nineteen theme is in use?

And are you sure all extensions are off, even ad/tracker blockers?

    Thread Starter nburgis

    (@nburgis)

I have not tried that. I just figured out what it could be before I posted, then had dinner.

I have 5 websites but 3 are live and I’m not sure I want to risk breaking them. I’ll try that with the dev sites tomorrow and let you know.

    Thanks!!

Long process, as you well know, but I’ve found the culprit – actually 2 culprits.

I was using Contact Form Maker plugin – that was what was causing it.

I checked another site which uses WP Forms, and that is doing it as well.

So I need to find a form maker, preferably free, that is WordPress 5.0 and Gutenberg compatible.

Thanks so much for all your help with this.

The contact form module in Jetpack works properly in the new editor: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/jetpack/
