I’ve been using the Gutenberg plugin since before WordPress 5 launched, and have designed my site with the Gutenberg block editor.

Currently, I’m using WP 5.1, and was reviewing my plugins, and my Gutenberg 5.1.1 is currently Deactivated. With the option to Activate.

As Gutenberg is still my page and post editing system, I’m confused by how the Gutenberg plugin isn’t currently Active.

Is it automatically active since WordPress 5, and I don’t need to activate it?

Or should I activate the plugin anyway?

I’ve searched but am not finding anything on this.

Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Hiya,

When WordPress 5.0 was released, the plugin automatically deactivated it self, as that’s when the new editing experience was made default.

The plugin is still being updated, you can activate it again to get access to improvements before they’re put into WordPress updates, but it’s not required and you cna safely remove the plugin as well.

One question. I was having trouble finding the way to hide a page title, and was thinking that was visible in the plugin, but perhaps not in the WP version. I’ve done this before, but now can’t find out where that option is.

Do you know the situation on that, and where I might find it?

I’m not finding anything in search.
    thx

NM, I figured it out. Needed Bill Erickson’s plugin.

    thx
