• As of this morning WordPress has rolled out a ‘try Gutenberg’ feature in the top of the Admin area. I’m giving it a brief spin. Unfortunately there are no post-kind options showing up in the Gutenberg interface.

What are your plans for Gutenberg integration?

  • David, now that WP 5.0 is out, do you have any projections on when Post Kinds may work on Gutenberg? What obstacles are you facing? Will this require turning each post-kind into a block type?

I gather from the 3.1.4 release announcement that it won’t hurt to have the plugin activated with Gutenberg, but that if we want to use post kinds, we should use Classic Editor for now. Is that correct?

    Thanks!

To be honest, I’ve been sort of avoiding it because I can’t figure out how to design the change. So I made sure the Classic Editor declarations were there.

Posts Kinds stores its data outside of the content, and renders it on the fly. The new block system relies more on everything being in the content. A lot of the changes I’ve made in the last few versions were on the underlying system for that reason.

Likely is, if I start looking to convert my plugins for Gutenberg compatibility, I would start with one of the other plugins which is less complex before working on Post Kinds. Despite knowing about Gutenberg for a while, being someone who liked the Classic Editor, I’m not sure I’m going to jump in so soon.

But there are a lot of things I didn’t jump on that I later learned to love.

    Basically, still exploring options.
