• Hi,
first of all thank you for the great plugin. Since the last 2.0 update some h2 jumplinks nolonger work. I am not sure why it happens, as I do not see a pattern.
    Any idea?
    Thank you,
    Matt

I looked at the page. I see only two h2 tagged TOC items which do not work, 4. and 6.. Is that correct? No others?

I see they both have either an n-dash or m-dash in the heading. That could be the pattern. How are those dashes added in the headings when in the post editor? Did you type them in with the entity code, use -- for n-dash and --- for m-dash … some other way?

    Dear Steven,
thank you for your reply. Yes, this is correct, I did not check other posts or our other domains yet. Actually we did not add those at all. It is just a normal heading, in the text editor the reference is e.g. “<h2>Machen Di?ten auf Dauer dick? – Warum Abnehmen oft nicht nachhaltig funktioniert</h2>”. No more than that.

Ps. One more update, when in logged in state the inspection tool throws an error:

Uncaught TypeError: a(…).waypoint is not a function
    at HTMLDocument.<anonymous> (front.min.js:4)
    at i (jquery.js:2)
    at Object.fireWith [as resolveWith] (jquery.js:2)
    at Function.ready (jquery.js:2)
    at HTMLDocument.J (jquery.js:2)

    The path is
    /plugins/easy-table-of-contents/assets/js/front.min.js

RE: Actually we did not add those at all. It is just a normal heading, in the text editor

Actually, yes, you did add the n or m-dash. In you reply you even gave an example:

<h2>Machen Di?ten auf Dauer dick? – Warum Abnehmen oft nicht nachhaltig funktioniert</h2>

See that dash right after the ? mark. That is either a n or m-dash. I need to know which and what method you use in the editor to add it.

Why do I need to know? That way I can replicate the error and provide a fix.

RE: Uncaught TypeError: a(…).waypoint is not a function

Sounds like you may have a browser/page/server cache issue as jQuery Waypoint is no longer used included in ezTOC. I recommend clearing all your caches.

    Thanks!

    Hi Steven,
thank you for the investigation. Now I got what you meant.
I removed the “-” in this post and voila – it works.
Having said that, we have the “-” in many post headings, so a fix would be great.
It is no special “-“, just the normal one on the keybord. So the normal view in the editor typing away and hitting the – key on the keyboard…
We have more editors on the portal, it very well could be, that the text was copied in from word, and then reformatted. Sorry that I can’t be more precise,
thanks for the cache hint, going to do that now,
    all the best,
    Matt

Can you please remove the dash and then add it again using just the hyphen on the keyboard? I suspect it will work since there are many other heading on the page which include just hyphens.

I suspect the issue is just n- or m-dashes. WP would add these automagically when copy/pasting MS Word content into the editor.

    Hi Steven,
I just tested it: I added a hyphon here
Machen Di?ten auf Dauer dick? – Warum Abnehmen oft nicht nachhaltig funktioniert

Yes, I just typed it normally on the keyboard at a h2 heading.
Again, it was broken after adding the –
    I removed it again,
    all the best,

    Hi Stephen,
update: on a second domain we have the same issue: e.g. here:
    https://heilfasten-portal.com/fachartikel-fasten/darmentleerung-entschlacken.html

With the “old” version, it was working fine.
Also I found out, that if the “-” is within the first h2 heading, no TOC is displayed at all.

Please note, that all sites are german sites. I hope you find the issue. If needed, I could give you access to one of our sites for you to test.
    all the best,
    Matt

Thanks for the update. This is high on my todo list to resolve. I plan on replicating and debugging this next week. I’ll definitely reach out if I have trouble replicating the issue. Is there a way I can contact you if needed?

    Hi Steven,
thanks for the message. Just send a message to info at any of the mentioned domains. I will then reply via email.
    All the best!

Can you confirm which version of ezTOC you have installed on this site?

I’m trying to replicate, but it is working fine for me using hyphens (dash), n-dash and m-dash.

I did notice that on the one TOC item that did not work, the heading, in the page content, not the TOC, has an anchor tag in it. It’s empty so you might not see it in the post editor. It is <a name="Irrigator"></a>.

    Perhaps that is the cause?

    Hi Steven,
thank you for your message. Actually I am on the latest version.
I have one more domain, where it happens: https://demenz-forschung.com/demenz-vorbeugen-tipps-praevention/#was_tun_um_demenz_vorzubeugen_tipps_aus_der_praxis

Anyway, I can give you access to this particular site as it is pretty new and you can have a look around. It might be easier this way.
Can you use the contact form https://lanaprinzip.com/kontakt/ and supply your email address, I am going to set you up on the system.

Sent the message. I had a hard time getting past the quiz on the form though, lol. I had the browser translate the page so I could read it, so when I answered, I was answering in English instead of German and I kept failing the quiz. lol face-palm!
