• Hi,

I think my website has been compromised. Not sure what the issues neither do I know how to resolve. Hence, I am posting here hoping to find a solution.

This among other URLs has been affected. It has some kind of spammy content which I haven’t created. It even has Paypal links to purchase software and stuff.

I have also noticed a spike in backlinks almost all of them look fishy.

To my untrained eye this looks like hack. I’m not at all in a position to find a solution to this. I would highly appreciate if someone with prior experience and knowledge could help me out.

  • It does appear to be hacked. A good place I typically recommend starting is replacing existing WordPress, theme, and plugin files with the latest versions of what exists for those and then to manually go through and delete any files that you didn’t personally upload and that aren’t a part of said themes, plugins, and core wordpress files as they are likely either malware or created by malware. It may not get you all the way clean but it goes a long way to resolving the problem if it doesn’t fully resolve it. Also security companies like wewatchyourwebsite.com and sucuri.com have services that clean it for you and sucuri.com also has a site scan tool that can help as well.

Remain calm and carefully follow this guide. When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.

If you’re unable to clean your site(s) successfully, there are reputable organizations that can clean your sites for you. Sucuri, SiteLock and Wordfence are a few.
