• Hello,

I am an intern working with a small company over the summer helping them with tech-related things. I have limited experience with Wordrpess and website making but am not very proficient. The company I work with has a website hosted on WordPress that I was maybe going to work on in the next couple of weeks but yesterday my boss received an email. The email was from an address that was very sketchy and basically said that this person had worked on their website before and saw that the website was down due to an error message and could help again. I logged into the WordPress admin portal my boss gave me access to as a user and saw that everything was missing, plugins, pages, etc. If you go to the web address the only thing that pops up is the following:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘)’, expecting ‘{‘ in /home/jthedark/public_html/seahg/wp/wp-content/plugins/my-custom-functions/inc/php/functional.php(103) : eval()’d code on line 4[/code]

I changed the passwords on all of the accounts that could login into the WordPress admin portal but I’m not sure what to do next. My boss is in a meeting so I’m scrambling to figure out if this is something I can figure out on my own how or if I need help since I am inexperienced. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

  • Hello!

There is really no point to worry if you have a backup of the site – at least you should! Just restore it and change all passwords – also to the database. After that install some security plugins like Wordence and Limit Login Attempts Reloaded and it should be fine ??
