• Plugin seemed to be doing its job very well, until I decided to do a bulk optimization. While I was in the middle of optimizing, the screen went all weird and when I hit refresh, it took me to the WordPress installation screen. Yeah, my site is gone.

If you really really want want to use this plugin, keep a backup. Otherwise you are done, just like me right now.

I’m thankful for developers for making this available for free, but I think they should address these kinda faults.

UPDATE: It had nothing to do with the plugin. The author was patient enough to explain it properly. This should be one of the most useful plugins out there in the repository.

There is absolutely nothing in EWWW that could destroy your WP install. Can’t imagine what it would be, without your WP database getting corrupted, but EWWW uses all the appropriate wpdb() functions to sanitize and insert data, and certainly doesn’t have any functions to reset it back to the default pre-install state.

That said, I DO always recommend folks take a backup, but that’s just for the sake of preserving the images in case they want to revert something (like if they decide to try the lossy options).

This probably doesn’t help now that you’ve reinstalled anything, but what I found online that could trigger that type of behavior was here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/blog-reverted-to-install-screen?replies=14

Basically, database tables in need of repair, or accidentally renaming core tables, or being hacked (that particular user had a very old version of WP running). There was one case of a plugin causing an issue, but it sounds like the plugin must have caused one of the above issues as well. A broken wp-config.php also seems to be able to cause the problem.

    Hey,

Sorry for being an ignoramus. I was very angry because my site content was gone. One of my friends who is good at PHP showed me that it has nothing to do with the plugin.

Is there a way that I can revert back my review?

PS: can you be more clear on that “A broken wp-config.php also seems to be able to cause the problem.” part? What do you mean by broken?

I think the only thing you can do is post a new review. I’ll see if a moderator can do anything about it otherwise.

As for the “broken wp-config.php”, I think it entailed a permissions issue on the file, invalid database settings, or some other settings in there that were not set properly. Normally, WordPress sets up your wp-config.php when you install it, and you never have to touch it again, so that seems to be the least likely cause of such an issue.

You can edit your first post and change the review number.

Go to the bottom of the page and you can change your review and stars ??

I too think the same. Anyways it doesn’t matter now. What happened is happened. I should keep backups.

Now that’s what I call tech support. Thanks yo!

Here, have a five star from me!
