• i had a theme rejected by the wordpress theme directory on the grounds of it being too boring.

the theme was modeled after the popular web publishing platform indexhibit.org and was intentionally plain and minimal.

    email quote:

“This theme is similar to your aav1 theme, both very plain black and white. We’d like to see more variety in the themes.”

here is a link to an image of the theme- remember, its not about this particular theme. its about the idea of wordpress denying a theme on the grounds of the personal judgement of one individual’s design taste.

i think this is an aggressive stance wordpress has made. has anyone else come across personal design direction and blatant distaste for style in submitting themes?

  • The theme repository is provided and managed by Automattic. Bottom line, they can do what they want. No real recourse but to adhere to their rules, even if those rules are arbitrary.

I really like your theme! ??

I would have downloaded it and used it. I like very extremely simple minimal themes. Plus something like that looks a little more easily customizable, just change up the css colours.

I am just tired of finding themes that have “header images” we are all not cookie cutters, I dont want my blog to look like the next persons.

Would you be interested in emailing me a copy of it?

    Well said.
