Yesterday I noticed that not all of my recent posts were showing on my blog’s home page. Nor on the pages of older stuff at est-aegis.info/page/n/ (n = 2, 3, etc.) After looking more carefully, I found that the home page has the three most recent posts on it. Even though in WP Reading Settings, I’ve chosen to show 5 posts on blog pages.
Then there are three missing posts (the 4th, 5th, & 6th newest) and /page/2/ has the 7th, 8th, and 9th oldest. Then three more missing, then…
So these blog pages (or whatever they’re called) skip every other set of three posts.
The missing posts DO show in the monthly archives, and in the recent posts list.
Changing the Reading Settings to show only 3 posts per blog page had no effect. (I cleared both my browser & the WP cache after changing this.) Neither did disabling all of my extensions.
What did work was switching themes. I switched to an old saved theme, and that did work. Unfortunately the old theme is well old and not the look we want.
How can I um debug or otherwise fix my theme?
Thanks for any advice you have.

It sounds like a problem with your theme. Have you contacted its developers, https://www.web-kare.com ?

    Hi Steven,
Yes, that’s where I started. The reply was basically “I don’t have time for this.” So I ended up asking here.
What I’m looking for is a way to debug a theme. I don’t understand enough about how wp themes work to know where to look for settings that affect the number of posts shown.

I’d look in the PHP that renders your front page. Install the plugin “show current template” to find out what file that is.

Thanks for the plugin. I ended up abandoning the broken theme and modernizing an older one. The plugin came in handy to keep me from getting confused about which theme I was looking at as I switched back and forth. At any rate, the problem is, if not solved, then at least worked around.
So thanks again, and I’ll mark this as resolved.
