Handle menu items to go from page to page .. highlighted items doesn’t appear

Hi there..
so I’m trying to make the “about the author” & “courses” items to be the scrolling items in the home page, but if I go to let say cart I can’t press the about author or courses because it leads no where..
Also how can I make my menu items that I used in scrolling pages highlighted when ever I’m in there section?

Please Please help me I spent 14 hours working straight trying to figure out this issue.
