Handling hundreds of galleries and thousands of images?

You probably want to look into some kind of fairly “robotic” FTP/Gallery builder type script. I don’t know of one offhand, but I think a lot of the traditional galleries that let you upload one image at a time and write info about it would be unsuitable. It’d take you forever to process 10,000s of images!

I’m satisfied if I can upload 10-25 images at a time in WordPress as it’s a constant work in progress. I’m not trying to solve the conversion from the current solution at this time, just trying to find a plugin that will give me the functionality of naming a gallery and upload in bunch of images to it.

However, it’s a great if there also is functions for FTP-uploads as you say.

Any suggestions, anyone?

Still open for suggestions.

you could try singapore (sgal.org), however it is not integrated into WordPress yet – which should be fairly easy.

I have integrated Gallery2 with WordPress with the WPG2 plugin and its working OK on my sidebar; although the embedded images is not to how I would like them to be. Need to look into this a little bit more, and ozgreg is very helpful at the forums.

You can upload multiple images with Gallery2 thru the browser or you can also use Gallery Remote, https://gallery.menalto.com/download to upload multiple images although I have yet to get that one up and running.

You can also upload multiple images through Gallery2 through the “Browse and Upload” browser method. Excuse my web terminology.

use flickr with the falbum / wordpress integration plugin.

I’ve been using folderblog (https://folderblog.org/) and have been very happy with it. I’ve got 2500 or so images currently online and plan on a few thousand more over the next few months. You can see it at https://www.digital-place.com.

Thanks for the input. I’m currently installing Gallery2 to see how it works, and will of course use the WPG2-plugin in my test blog.

Folderblog looks interesting (although I would much rather have the site’s wiki ;). At the moment Folderblog is my second choice.

tdh – I use Gallery2 with the WPG2 plugin mentioned above. It is fully integrated and I can easily put images into my posts. I have album titles, image titles, descriptions, keywords, slideshow, and plenty of other options available. Currently using the PG Theme for gallery2. See my main site in action at

tdh – how did your install go? Were you satisfied or did you go another direction?

I’ve been trying out Gallery2 and it fits my needs. The test I did with the plugin worked out fine but I haven’t given it a real run yet – have to solve some archiving issues with older images first. I’m on it – will let you know.
