• Resolved ScullyM

    (@scullym)

It seems a lot of people are having success with this plugin, but I don’t see anyone having the same problem I am.

When I enter my Posterous host name, email address, and password, the plugin just hangs for me. The button turns to “Please wait…” and the progress spinner graphic comes up, and then nothing happens.

    Has anyone else seen/solved this?

  • So I hacked the importer to start at page 60. It actually downloaded the 4 first ( most recent ) attachments and added them to Media. It did not replace the relevant post links and I can’t get it to download any more.

The dev Importer worked fine to me, although I had to use the $page hack. The downloading of attachments sometimes broke in middle of the posts, just like in eatloaf’s case. The Linked IMGs plugin did not work for me, I had to convert a few posts by hand. It would be nice to add the possibility to import just a few selected posts, to avoid rewriting the already good ones.

Still, this is the best tool to save your Posterous blogs in the next few weeks.

I have to revise my previous comment, finally I draw on the Linked IMGs plugin to do his job well, so these two plugins seem enough for the whole importing process.

Hello, i have tried to import the posterous xlm file, but due to a mistake my site (selected the wrong xml file) it didn’t work.
I like to import the correct file, but I still get the message

    “Processing…

We’re processing your import now and will send you an email when it’s all done. If you don’t hear from us within 24 hours, please contact support, and we’ll get everything fixed.”

I tried to sign out and sign in again and waited for mmore than a day, but this doesn’t work.

How to re-use the import functionality again??

    Thanks in advance.
    Ron

I think the failure to fix up image urls is because that part of the process doesn’t happen until after everything has been imported. So if you keep importing until all the content is there, the backfill should happen at the end (if I remember correctly).

@hofjes, you’ll need to contact wordpress.com support to get your issue resolved. Even if you post in the forums over at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/, someone should take note of your request and call it to the attention of the support staff there.

    Hi dllh

How do you download your importer?

I thought I’d just copy and paste all the text at the link you provided, but it copies the line numbers too.

Do you have a location where the .php file is held?

    Thanks in advance…

    Hi dllh,

I scrolled many pages to the bottom of your plugin and found the “plain text download” button.

I got your importer installed and it gives this error:

Got HTTP code 403 from https://posterous.com/api/2/sites/?api_token=CglsrqheeigInlfBkmyHypByCspDCGzB

I have no clue what that means. Can you shed any light on what to do?

Thanks in advance for your time and effort.

@stephendavidp, it means that Posterous is rejecting your login credentials.

I really recommend backing up your Posterous blog using their Backup option, importing into wordpress.com, and exporting from there to import into your .org blog.

    Hey guys,

Sorry if this is redundant. After trying the other plugin (which worked for me a month or so ago, but no longer), I found this one and it worked for me. It requires you grab the xml file from your downloaded Posterous archive file. Good luck. Search the plugins with “Posterous Importer Advanced

For my two blogs, the wordpress.com method brought only the newest article of each blog. I then found out that the Posterous Importer Advanced plugin delivered all my articles, even article comments from Posterous to WordPress. I hope this works for other .org users as well.

Another problem more related to Posterous, but people reading this might face it. Windows 7 default zip applications did not manage to open the Posterous export files, but others, e.g. 7-Zip Portable works.

teetmulja – yes I found that too. THe .zip has a size (mine was 66MB) but using WIndows Explorer it appeared to be empty. I used the demo version of WinZip and there were all my files…

I made a video of how to use dllh’s importer with step-by-step instructions to get your posterous blog in to a hosted WordPress site. If you are on a non-hosted site, maybe you could just dispense with the bit about creating a hosted site and do all the other steps. The details are in this thread.

dllh, thanks for the updated plug-in code. That did the trick for my blog hosted on hostgator with WordPress 3.51. It imported all images, Doc, xls and PDFs, The only file type it didn’t import was PPT files. For every PPT, it just kept the link to the Posterous file. Is there a way to have the plugin import PPT files?

Does anyone have an idea why I am getting this error repeatedly when running the posterus inporter plug-in with the new script?

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /wp-content/plugins/posterous-importer/posterous.php on line 560

It looks like it’s having trouble importing thumbnails
