• Hi,

For the past week I’ve tried accessing my site lyndhurstdc.com but get the following error message:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/content/86/7160686/html/lyndhurstdc/wp-content/plugins/disable-comments/disable-comments.php on line 44

The only plugin I’ve installed is Jetpack, I haven’t updated to the latest version and I haven’t played around or changed any code at all so I’m worried this is a hack. I can login to wordpress.com but it won’t load the plugins. Equally, I can’t access the wp-admin site to deactivate any plugins. My site has been down for at least 8 days now.
    Thanks

The page I need help with is lyndhyrstdc.com

  • Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

Thanks – so do I need to download PHPMyAdmin?

I have no idea how to access my server via FTP or file manager, I’ve never done any of this before and as I say I run a very basic site with only one plugin (Jetpack).

Any help will be much appreciated.

the way to access your files and databases depends on your hosting provider.
if you have your ftp credentials, you could use something like filezilla to access your files.

PHPMyAdmin is a small PHP program that runs on the server and let you access your database, you don’t need to install it and again, whether you have it on your hosting or not depends on your hosting provider.

You must login to your File Manager on your hosting provider and delete or rename the folder disable-comment as it is causing this error.

    You installed this plugin.

Once you delete or rename it, the website will come back up again.

Contact your hosting provider to get the credentials if you don’t already have them.
