This is such a promising plugin with exactly the options I want. However, I haven’t had any luck getting either of the following settings to work:

    1. Disable turning URLs into hyper-links in comments
    2. Remove HTML Link Tags in comments

I did successfully “Hide existing comments”.

I’m also using the plugin Subscribe to Comments Reloaded.

Any idea what might be going on?

    Hi,

Can you please post a screenshot of the plugin’s settings area and link to a front end post where comment is enabled?

    Thanks

Sure, there are links in several comments on this article: https://bit.ly/2jx4miY

Thanks. Yes, I can see the issue. Seems like some other plugin or some theme settings is causing the issue. Generally the settings work fine. We just tested again. You can try deactivating other plugins one by one that may have anything to do with the comments and see.

I just approved your test comment – I had a setting on that requires admin approval for new comments with links. Can you see if the resulting stripped third link is due to this plugin? Or is there a conflict with another plugin still?

Thanks. You can delete those comments. I could already see them after making the post – though it was not publicly visible. But WP lets you see the post you made with a notice that awaiting admin approval.

The problem is something with another of your plugin or theme which we are unable to troubleshoot without access to your system. However, you can see the same plugin in action here: https://www.dna88.com/hello-world/ . Make a comment with some links and html tags with link. It is working fine with this installation which uses latest WordPress version.

    Thanks

Thank you. I’ve tried disabling the other comment-related plugin, and also adding in the code remove_filter('comment_text', 'make_clickable', 9); to functions.php of my child theme. I still can’t disable URLs from turning into hyperlinks.

I know this isn’t related to this plugin, but do you think an alternative solution to would be to use a search & replace plugin to strip all instances of https:// from the wp_comments table?

    Sorry to hear that.

Our plugin already does this type regular expression search and replace for the comments when that option is enabled.

Will this plugin be updated for 4.7.3??

It is already compatible with 4.7.3. 4.7.3 is mainly a security update. It won’t affect this plugin. But we are updating the plugin anyway.

    Thanks
