I’ve spent countless hours with this plugin and for the life of me I can’t get it to look anywhere near the demo shown in the description section. Even with a stock WP install and Theme.

A Test site that should be available for the few weeks can be found here

To be brutally honest I’ve had it with his plugin. But since Maeve Lander kindly asked for me to open up a support ticket, and I feel the plugin wouldn’t have been released if it had major flaws. I’m gritting my teeth in hopes that my experiences will help further develop what should be the best WP Catalouge plugin in the repository.

Thanks for giving me a chance to help out Chook.
Ok I’ve checked your site and can see 3 things which we can do immediately to get this fixed up:

1.) I think you may have the shortcode within <code> brackets in the page. This can happen if you copy and paste things withing backticks from the repo. Flick over to Text view (instead of Visual tab in the page editor) and make sure the shortcode is not encased by backticks or other code blocks eg <pre> or [code]

2.) There is not enough width on this theme to cope with the WP Catalogue sidebar and 3 columns of product thumbs. There are various options:
    a) Choose a theme (or use a page template) with a greater width
    b) In WP Catalogue settings select to use less products per row
    c) Make your WP Catalogue thumbnail images smaller (so they fit better in the space available)
    d) Choose to go without the left categories sidebar so that the space can be used for the products.

3.) Looks like you need to add your Inner Page Header and Footer for this theme. You can find out more on that in the FAQs or post back here after you've taken care of 1 & 2 above and I can send you a note of the specific code for your theme.

Thanks, and hope this helps get you back on track with WP Catalogue.

    Cheers,
    Maeve`

    1. Your were correct, the shortcode was copied n pasted to the Visual Editor. Have removed the shortcode, updated, reinserted to the Text Editor.

    2. a/ Ive changed to my preferred theme (same as on the live site) with full width page template.
b/ WP Catalouge settings are :
    Grid Rows = 2
Choose Theme Color = Yellow (#eeee22) but no matter what I change colour to it still shows the 1st colour chosen.
    Gallery Image = 358 Height 500 Width
    Thumbnail = 151 Height 212 Width
    Show Next/Prev Links = no
    Inner Template Header = blank
    Inner Template Footer = blank

c/ Images were created at the Gallery Image size. Unless I’ve missed where to insert Thumbs I’ve gotten the impression Thumbs were generated from the Product Image Upload section?

d/ There are no other setting to choose?

    3. Theme changed.

    thanks.

1.) I think it’s still within some sort of code block – the font is the giveaway and if you inspect element you can see it.

2.) Cool, so on this new theme I would suggest you set the page template to full width as that will allow more space for the catalogue and because the sidebar is probably not particularly helpful on catalogue pages. I think it also looks like there’d be room for 3 products per row now if you wish.

no matter what I change colour to it still shows the 1st colour chosen.

That’s weird… any chance you’ve got it hardcoded somewhere in your css? You did mention you had spent some hours with the plugin before so I imagine maybe you customised the css?

c/ Images were created at the Gallery Image size. Unless I’ve missed where to insert Thumbs I’ve gotten the impression Thumbs were generated from the Product Image Upload section?

Yes correct – you want to upload images at the largest size and the WP Catalogue will generate the smaller thumbs. The image it’s pulling in seems to be 300×215 – not sure where it’s getting that from if you set your Gallery Image size as something else. Was that size setting in there previously (perhaps when the image was originally uploaded)? Actually, can you send a screenshot of your WP Catalogue settings page so I can reference? And what happens if you upload a new image now? Same thing?

    3) Inner Page Header and Footer appear to be unnecessary for this theme – it looks good to me on inner pages. Agreed?

Sorry, I was working on the new Theme Pages width settings and working between WP-Catalogue and Catalogue Pages. You may have visited during me implementing the changes ?? The Font is showing fine now…

    To get the images working,
I had to adjust the WP Media Settings (Dashboard/Settings/Media) to:
    Thumbnail size = Width 212 Height 156
Medium size = Max Width 500 Max Height 358
    Large size = (Default) 1024

Then I Used Regenerate Thumbnails Plugin to,,, regenerate the image thumbs.

Went back to the WP-Catalogue / Product Images and re-uploaded the images with the Link URL being clicked from the File URL button…

So Images are now working ??

Whats still not quite right is the WP-Catalogue Colour Theme. It just won’t alter to the new selected colour. It just stays on a Brown colour that I had 1st selected…

From the Description, The Demo out of the Box example shows WP-Catalogue to be responsive. But on my test site Only the WP-Catalogue Product/Categories menu responds. The Products remain put?
Looking at the page source of the Out of the box demo, looks like that is the Pro Version demonstrated?

Great, sounds like most issues are resolved now… just a few little things:

This is very odd. Did you check for hardcoded CSS as I suggested? The only other thing I can think is a conflict with theme or another plugin. You may need to resort to deactivating everything else for testing to isolate the error…

That is correct. The currently active version on demo site is PRO version which is fully responsive. The free version is not.

On the test site no custom or additional CSS was preformed. It’s a stock default WP install, a Theme, and a handful of plugins.

I’ve deactivate the plugins and tired to set the WP-Catalogue theme colour again… no difference ??

I’ve changed to another Theme and tested, again no difference.. still that brown colour I had 1st selected…

Cleared cache, and different browsers – FF and Chrome.

Uninstalled WP-Catalogue, then reinstalled. Created a couple of Products and Categories with WP-Catalogue default settings (Green Theme Colour?) and … nope, still got the brown colour :/

But! what’s more disappointing is WP-Catalogue is only partial mobile responsive! When I read the description and the demo link stated “Click here for out-of-the-box demo” – That demo I thought just sweet. This is what I would get right out of the box :/

So on that major misinterpretation I’ve decided to jump ship and go with the another 100% responsive plugin.

Thanks for making the Differences between the Pro version and what’s on the WP Repository so confusing :/

Sure ok no worries, sounds like you’ll be happier with another plugin. Good luck.
