Hi – I have DNS set up to point to my domain. But in trying to set up Site Kit when I get to the page “Have Google verify site ownership” the URL showing is the host URL, not my domain. I have reset Site Kit numerous times. I have deleted and reinstalled the plug in. I have cleared the cache numerous times. I am out of ideas. Any advice? Thanks.

Hello @hannahag thank you for getting in touch. To help you further with this please can you share the following:

    1. Your?Site Health information. You can?use this form?to share privately if preferred.?Please include your hosting provider on the form.
    2. Does the same happen when trying from an Incognito window?
    3. A recording of your experience. You can share this also in the Site Health form.

Once you share the information I can do some further investigation and supply some more troubleshooting steps.

Thanks @adamdunnage. I replied by email with the details. I do see in SiteHealth there are issues. Perhaps that’s where the domain part is breaking?

@hannahag Thanks for sharing the information. I can’t see any information regarding points 2 and 3 in your form. Would you also be able to share these while I continue to check your information.

    Hi @adamdunnage.

I added these on the form.

Problem is the same in an incognito window.

    Ah – I didn’t submit a recording. https://www.loom.com/share/1cc104f8b1924935842e3b079f600411?sid=e09b0808-1ab8-43c3-9da2-e9ee9a210e7a

    Thanks for your help!

@hannahag Thanks a lot for sharing the recording that’s very helpful indeed. Could I ask you if you have tried to verify your site ownership manually? This guide gives more information on the different ways you can do this manually.

In the meantime I will continue to look into this. We may need to check your site records on the Site Kit service to see if there is a mismatch that needs resetting but it would be useful to know what happens after manual verification.

Thanks @adamdunnage – I’ll try that manual site verification. Thanks for the guide. Doing that now. I’ll report back. Thank you.

    Bummer.

Site verification is pointed to the subdomain on WPEngine’s site.

    You’re already verified

Google detected that you’re a verified owner for https://moviewerscom.wpenginepowered.com.

GSC does call the asset moviewers.com in the dashboard. It doesn’t refer to the WPEngine domain.

The part of this that is correct is that is the URL for the production environment within WPEngine.

The part that’s wrong is that it’s not the custom domain.

    Anything else I can do?

@hannahag Sorry to hear that! When you reach the verify site ownership page as part of Site Kit setup and click on the highlighted URL, are you taken directly to that URL or does this take you to the expected URL? I ask as this is the property name and not always the destination URL so this could be looking at the correct URL in this case.

    Thread Starter HannahAG

    (@hannahag)

When I click that verify link ( https://moviewerscom.wpenginepowered.com ) I am taken to the site, and the URL showing is correct — https://moviewers.com/.

(Which shows me that the header image isn’t loading. more to fix!)

I tried to open the link in an incognito window – now the URL is the WPE URL. Hang one sec and I’ll send a Loom.

This might be more clear: https://www.loom.com/share/798b47c325934bc196b770c4ab0885a1?sid=caf2ed71-7377-4e5d-a01b-fe3d0b25e3ab

    Thanks.

Hi @adamdunnage – is something very wrong on my end? Is there a fix to this? Thanks.

@hannahag Thank you for sharing the information. As the destination URL looks to be correct there and it’s just the property name that appears to be wrong, what happens if you try to continue through the Site Kit setup?

Have you tried this already? And if not could you let me know if you are able to complete this or if you run into any issues.
