Have I been hacked? SQL server went away error

  • Hi folks,

    I’m embarrassed to be writing here because I think my site was hacked, but I’m hoping I’m wrong. The site was running 2.5.1 and this problem started about a week ago. When I went to login at the wp-login.php page or at the wp-admin.php page, I started receiving this error…

    MySQL server has gone away on line: 124

    I contacted my host as I thought it could be a problem with the database, but they told me that everything looked fine from their end. So, that’s when I started thinking that maybe this was a hacked site, especially because of the reference to comments. It’s the same error every time.

    I then upgraded to 2.6 and upgraded the database and still cannot login.

    Can anyone give me any advice on what I can do to figure out what’s going on?

    I removed all my plugins and was able to login. I am putting them back one by one and reactivating to find the culprit.

    I had the same error: MySQL server has gone away on line: 124

    I deleted all my plugins. My site is now working. Do I always have to delete the plugins every time I encounter this error?

    Why are we getting this error?
