Have to manually add rel="lightbox" to each image code

Hello!
I recently installed a new theme (pipdig Venture, version 1.97) on WordPress 4.4. I have WP Lightbox 2 installed from my previous theme and it seems to be working well on my previous post images, but with my first post within the new theme I have to manually add rel=”lightbox” in the code for it to work. I’m uploading my images the same way that I was before and using the “link to media file” option. WP Lightbox 2 used to override the link to media file option, but now it won’t unless I manually add rel=”lightbox” in the post code. Is there an extra step that I’m missing or is this plugin simply not compatible with this theme? Seems I can work around it with the manual code edits, but I’d rather not have to do that.
