When adding a link it says below the description “This will be shown when someone hovers over the link in the blogroll, or optionally below the link.” How do I get the descriptions to display on hover? I can not find that option in link library anywhere and it doesn’t do that automatically (hovering just repeats the text).
    Thanks for any help!

I see. The thing to know about Link Library is that it is currently built on top of the original Link Manager that is built into WordPress, but hidden on new installations.

The text that you are referring to concerning the description refers to functionality from the core Link Manager that Link Library does not follow in its output. This text will eventually disappear later this year when I release version 6.0, moving away from the legacy Link Manager towards Custom Post Types.

I can look at adding this functionality back in a future update, but my focus in currently going primarily towards the 6.0 update.

    Sorry for the false hope.

+1 for this feature request, Yannick!

CM Tooltip Glossary has similar functionality and, in my opinion, that functionality enhances the usefulness of the content.

On a related note: Is the data in the “Link Large Description” field accessible from somewhere? If not: I’d like to see this information hidden in an accordian-style drop-down and activated by a hyperlink next to the content that let’s viewers know that there’s more descriptive text. e.g., “More…”

    Thanks, again!

Yes, you can display the Large Description field by selecting it to be displayed in the Advanced tab of library settings. To get it to be displayed in a hidden drop-down is possible but would require some fine coding within the display before and display after fields for that data, along with some custom coding in the field that displays only once for the entire library.

I can explain the concepts there if you are familiar with javascript and jquery, or I could implement this custom display for you for a fee. We could talk privately about the latter option if you contact me on my site: https://ylefebvre.ca/contact-me

With Eric jumping on the bandwagon for this feature, I added it to a new version of Link Library that will be out a bit later this evening. After updating, you will see a new option next to Link Name in the table under Advanced settings to selected if you want to use the description as a tooltip. New version will be 5.9.13.1.

Fantastic, Yannick! (BTW: That’d be a really cool nickname!)

I’ve enabled this feature and can confirm that it works exactly as requested [in Version 5.19.13.3].

    Thanks, Yannick!

Thanks so much Yannic. I really appreciate a plugin author such as yourself going the extra mile to add features per user request! You the man!
