I’m having issues with the load times using the Illustratr theme. It seems to want to load all content for number of posts you specify in the Reading setting before displaying anything.

I’ve had to reduce the number of posts shown on the front page to 3 because the default setting of 10 was taking too long to load. It still takes a few seconds to load when limiting to 3.

It would be ideal if it loaded the first post immediately, following by the rest of the posts, one at a time.

Is there anyway to customize the theme to do that?

This is crucial because I don’t want people to get impatient while checking out my blog for the first time and leave because the page takes more than a second or two to load any content.

    Thanks everyone!

Hi there! I had a look and your homepage loading is particularly slow because of the multiple connections to the SoundCloud server required for all your SoundCloud embeds.

As you’re running on WordPress.com, the best place to help you troubleshoot this further is over in their forums. (These forums are for folks running WordPress on their own hosting.)

Could you please make a post over here and add the tag modlook to the Tags area so it will get staff attention?

    Hi Kathryn,

    Thank you for the reply!

Sorry I wasn’t more clear. My current active blog is on wordpress.com, but I want to move it to www.ads-software.com so I can customize it more. I’ve started the process and created the temporary URL, while I customize before launch, which is https://biz166.inmotionhosting.com/~reverb8/.

For the statement of the Soundcloud links. I understand that they do add to page load, but I was hoping I could get them to load one at a time and be displayed as soon as they’re loaded. Instead of loading ALL Soundcloud links plus ALL other content before displaying anything.

    Does that make sense?

    Thanks again!

What you’re describing sounds like something called “lazy loading.” You could test out some lazy load plugins and see how it goes.

Be sure to find a plugin that doesn’t just lazy-load images – you may need to try a few before you find the right one.

I hope this helps point you in the right direction – good luck!

Thanks Kathryn, that seems to work pretty good! I installed BJ Lazy Load and it’s helping the page load significantly.

The one issue I’m running into is lazy loading the content with Inifinite Scroll from Jetpack. There seems to be an issue with when the Lazy Load engages after the Infinite Scroll loads the 7 new posts. I’m playing around with the pixel setting to try to adjust this.

    Any suggestions?

Thank you so much for your help, it’s drastically better!

    I’m glad that helped!

I would first try posting in the BJ Lazy Load plugin’s forum to see if they could look into the issue. There may be an incompatibility there and you may need to turn of Jetpack’s Infinite Scroll or perhaps there’s a fix they can implement.
