having plug-in activated causes text files to download when trying to view pages

  • I have a website using the Classic Editor plug-in. See: screenshot

    When the plug-in is activated it causes 420 byte text files to download whenever I try to view a page from the Pages list in the admin area.

    Is there a fix for this please?

  • First step is to disable all other plugins and a standard WordPress theme (e.g. Twenty-Eighteen). Then test. If the issue disappears then activate one by one until you find the conflicting plugin or theme.

    Sounds like one of your other plugins is conflicting with the old Edit Post screen. Next step would be to try @pidengmor’s suggestion.
