    I use the RedBel theme. Have tried uploading my logo with a 1000×158 pixel which was recommended and the uploads are distorted and changes the color to white background besides.

    That sounds to me like the size of a header image, and a logo would be much smaller. Then, the smaller logo image would be added to your header area by way of some programming code added to your Child Theme files.

    If you do not need your logo to be separately-clickable all by itself, what I have done is to simply paste my logo directly onto a copy of my header image, then upload that new header image to replace what I had.
