Someone put me on to Configurator to make child themes so I gave it a go (after first watching the video instructions).

It seems to have worked quite fine, except….my header’s disappeared. The header only contains images (which are randomised). Top menu bar etc. is all there ok, as are page content and sidebar widgets etc. Everything works, just no header.

I checked the box in section 8 to “copy menus, widgets and other customizer settings”…and it has done, except for the header and its images!

Theme is MH Magazine Lite, https://www.mhthemes.com/. Sorry can’t provide live link as developing on localhost MAMP.

….which might possibly (?) be the cause of a second issue….which is that if ANY theme in my theme folder is analyzed, I get a debug output warning:

Notice: Use of undefined constant REQUEST_URI - assumed 'REQUEST_URI' in /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/wp37/wp-content/themes/portfolio-lite/functions.php on line 73

I’ve tried using a WP core theme (twenty-sixteen) and deactivating all plugins (except Configurator) but the warning comes up every time. Maybe it’s something to do with using MAMP? But I’m not expert, I’m afraid.

Any help or advice on either issue welcome.

    Thanks

Many third-party themes (not on www.ads-software.com) use non-standard options to save theme settings and there is no consistency between them.

CTC Pro attempts to find and copy any options that contain the name of the theme directory, which works most of the time.

Otherwise, you will need to re-apply your customizations to the child theme to restore the header settings.

    Hi,

Thanks for reply. OK, not a huge job to do re-apply that one customisation – just surprised that it pulled in all the others except that one.

MH Magazine Lite is a www.ads-software.com theme, too: https://www.ads-software.com/themes/mh-magazine-lite/ – so I don’t think it’s ‘third party’ in that sense.

Related to the second issue, the debug output warning…. I did write to the theme developer and ask them if there was an issue, and got this reply:

we’re not sure why you’re using a plugin to create a child theme, but in the end the issue is related to your plugin. It doesn’t seem to work properly.

They directed me to the codex child theme page, but trying to read that is exactly why I reached for a plugin ??
