    Hi,

I’m using Fourteen Extended to extend the supported width of my blog all the way to 1600 (from the default 1260). The problem is when I try to change the header image to an image that is 1600-wide, it gets cropped to 1260 anyways, which leaves some whitespace on the right of my header image when viewed on screen larger than 1280 wide in resolution.

How can I set a header image that is the full 1600 wide?

    Thanks,
    Nick

    Hi Nick,

Thank you for pointing out that issue.

Unfortunately the function required to manipulate the header image is a bit extensive to be handled by the plugin. I’ve therefore opted for a child theme approach to address that issue.

You can find a copy that does exactly what you need at: https://wpdefault.com/fourteenxtd-child-theme/

I will be uploading to www.ads-software.com after I’ve polished it up and given it enough functions to qualify as a unique child theme – that will be sometime though.

Hopefully it will help you solve this issue – do let me know how it goes and if there’s anything else I can help with.

    Thanks Z.

I’m no WordPress expert and I’ve never used child themes before. How am I supposed to use this? Do I replace my current theme (Twenty Fourteen default) with this one? If so, will everything else remain the same as the 2014 theme? The last thing I want is to break 12 things to fix one.

    No problem.

The child theme works with the parent theme i.e. you keep both installed but only activate the child theme. Its kind of an extension to the parent theme if you like.

EDIT: You can see a demo here: https://wpliveserver.com/fourteenxtd/

Thanks, I successfully installed your child theme and everything looks awesome so far. I’ll be sure to let you know if I discover issues with it. Great work!

    Awesome.

Closing thread as resolved but if you need assistance with anything else then please feel to open a new thread.

For support on the child theme itself please use the forum on the website.

Sorry for reopening this but there seems to be issues with the child theme on Windows Phone. The responsive design is not working well. The default Twenty Fourteen them did not have that issue. I can send you image examples if you want.

    FYI, my site is https://www.ageofmobility.com

    No problem at all.

Yes please, if you can provide some screenshots will appreciate it as do not have a Windows phone to test on.

    Here are some screenshots.

The first is from a Lumia 1020 (same as 920, 925, 928) with a WXGA resolution of 1280×768. Note how the the sidebar on the right is all squeezed-up, which in turn shrinks the space available for the main content.

    Screenshot #1 (1020): https://sdrv.ms/1mURRFz

The second is a Lumia 1520 “phablet” with a full HD resolution of 1920×1080. It’s like the responsive design is not working at all. The menu at the top is shown, both sidebars are turned on, and there is overlapping text with no room for the main content.

    Screenshot #2 (1520): https://sdrv.ms/1b2SvPd

I can confirm that both looked great before applying the child theme. The responsive design was adapting nicely just like it does on my iPhone 4S. It’s also working fine at various browser widths in IE 11 on Windows 8.1, both on desktop and tablets. The only issue seems to be on Windows Phone 8 devices.

I’ll be happy to help you test things to debug this issue.

OK got them thank you – will look in to it as soon as possible.

As this forum is for the plugin could I ask you to transfer this this issue to its own thread over at the site’s forum and will continue the discussion there. Here’s the direct link: https://wpdefault.com/forums/topic/fourteenxtd-child-theme/

    Thanks,
