header image on homepage vs other pages

Context: the theme allows a user to choose a static home page or the latest posts.

Problem: the header image is larger (taller, on the vertical) when ‘latest posts’ is chosen as opposed to ‘static page’ on a laptop/PC (chrome and firefox). When I uploaded the image, it looked great in the WP dashboard (the live editor/customizer), but on the actual site, it’s cropped at the bottom. Interestingly, it’s fine on my phone.
