• Hello, WordPress Friends –

I must be missing something super basic, but I can’t find where I edit the order of menu items in the header navigation menu. Older themes had the regular menu editor, where you just drag to rearrange the order of menu items. Thanks!

Hi @skellogg23, Twenty Twenty-Three is a “block theme,” which means that it the features of the Site Editor, rather than the older method of editing menus in “classic themes.” You might like to explore the resources here to get more familiar with Site Editing.

Is your site using the Page List block or the Navigation block to display the menu? If you’re not sure, turn on the list view and select your block to see which it is, as you can see here:

If you’re using a Page List block, the order of items within it can’t be changed, as it’s just a list of all your site’s pages, in alphabetical order. If this is what your site is using, you’ll want to remove the Page List block and add a Navigation Block instead.

Once you’ve added a Navigation block, follow the guide here to create a menu and select it. You can then move the individual items in the Navigation block using one of the two methods described here.

Let me know how it goes!

Hi @zoonini, I really appreciate your detailed reply. I’ve been out of the WordPress world for a while, and clearly things have changed. I find myself exploring Ghost as a CMS/blogging solution, and so far I’m enjoying the experience. I’m sure future generations will find your reply of value!

Actually just one clarification, and I hope I haven’t further confused things with what I posted above. ?? The Page List block may already be contained inside a Navigation block, a in smy screenshot above.

If that’s the case, you can skip the step of needing to add a Navigation block, as it will already be there there. Instead, you can just move on to the step of creating your new menu within the Navigation block.

Just let me know if you run into any problems with it!
