Header video doesn’t autoplay on mobile website

I have the same issue with my site: https://varnenki.com
The video plays normally on web but it isn’t functioning on mobile. There’s a play button which neither works.
I imagine that some of the developers might provide an additional css code to add in the settings of the theme?

I have found the problem for myself. My video is from youtube but the theme supports mobile videos only from vimeo or self-hosted mp4s. They all work on web but youtube isn’t on mobile.

Thanks for letting us know about this issue. It seems that there is a limitation only on mobile devices with YouTube videos. We are still investigating whether this is something controlled by YouTube or it’s just an issue with the Custom Header feature from WordPress, which we integrate into the theme:

Video Headers in 4.7

We’ve noticed that YouTube videos and the Play/Pause button work fine on iPads, not iPhones.

We’ll try to find a solution asap. If we cannot make the Play/Pause button work on mobile devices, we’ll have to hide YouTube videos on these devices and display the image fallback instead.

As a temporary solution, I suggest using MP4 or Vimeo videos.

Hello, I was wondering if there was something new about this topic.
The video is way too long/heavy to be uploaded as a simple mp4, and I think that Vimeo, has a strict policy about the music used in the videos so it would be way easier if it worked with YouTube. Any updates or tips ?

@1not5media Is it a YouTube video? YouTube videos are not supported as their player doesn’t support autoplay on mobile devices.

Please use a self-hosted or Vimeo video instead. They will play automatically in the background on mobile devices.

It’s a self-hosted MP4 video (h.264), and it loads fine in all browsers on my mobile device.

If your phone is in Low Power Mode (iOS), then your mobile browser won’t play the video automatically to save the battery.

Hi, I’m having a similar problem with my header video. I have uploaded it directly (Mp4) on my website but it doesn’t play either on my IOS iPhone or iPad? Any ideas?
