Header Widget, set to show 4 thumbnails, random, from only one selected Gallery ID. Has literally been working fine for YEARS, but it is completely broken in NextGEN Gallery 3.0.16. Now, it may show one image, but usually it just says “No Images Were Found”.

If I change it to “Recently Added” (instead of “Random”) then it works PERFECTLY.

    Please, fix the Random function.

  • This appears to be the same issue as reported by several others. My own report has been under investigation for several days, so hopefully it will get fixed.
I suspect the issue arose in 3.0.15 (see changelog bullet 3), where a new method of choosing random images is described including holding the selection for 24h. Both the non-working method and the retention of the selection differ from previous practice.

    Hi @sneader!

As @mbsharp explained, the report was under investigation.
But since our last meeting, this report is part of our current backlog.
That means that the developers have this task already assigned for them to check the problem.

Thanks, Gaby! Today’s v3.1.0 update didn’t address it, I see. If I can help you with testing a fix, I’d be glad to do so! I’m 100% able to reproduce this problem. If I change the widget to “recent” I get 4 images showing, if I switch to “random” then nothing shows up. For now, we are showing the same 4 images all the time, which is weird… we much prefer the old, working random function, where we can show 4 random images on each page load.

Seems to be fixed in version 3.1.5

Yes, it now displays images again, but they don’t seem very random any longer. Here is a site you can test with: https://www.w9smc.com/ — try clicking around, the images no longer change, or only change once in a while.

    Hi @sneader

Please go to Gallery > Other options > Miscellaneous > Random widget cache duration
    Change that value.
You might also need to adjust the setting “Use alternative method of retrieving random image galleries” and check again.

Please, let us know how it goes.

Hi Gaby! I forgot to update this thread after Imagely updated the plugin to fix this problem. It is working now in version 3.1.6 (but was not working in 3.1.5).

    Thanks! – Scott
