• Here’s the problem.

I create a headline and then insert an image below it.

I doubleclick on the headline text and type Control-C to copy it.

My next step would normally be to align the image to center. but when I click on the image, nothing happens because the editor won’t let go of the highlighted headline text.

This is with latest Gutenberg plugin. Latest Chrome on Windows 10.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @moviedebuts,

I checked this on a test site and I wasn’t able to reproduce the issue, have you tried editing the site on a different browser?

If you have, do you still get the same results?

I use Chrome but the bug also exists in Microsoft Edge.

Highlight the headline and leave it highlighted. Control-C to copy the text. Now try to click on an image. You can click on it but block mode isn’t invoked. You can’t do anything such as get the alignment menu. You have to un-highlight the text first.

    Here is some additional information:

When I disable the Gutenberg the headline problem seems to go away.

HOWEVER, with the plugin disabled, every photo in my articles has this directly above it:

This block contains unexpected or invalid content. Attempt Block Recovery

I didn’t attempt to recover these codes because I have thousands of photos.

So I re-enabled the plugin and the error has gone away but the problem of highlighting the headline and being unable to do anything is still there.

ALSO, I haven’t confirmed this yet but this situation might be preventing
Google from finding my photos in articles.

This is a mess, please help!

@moviedebuts Hi there! I too have not been able to replicate this with Chrome following the steps you provided.

To help troubleshoot further, please answer all of these troubleshooting questions regarding the headline/image problem:

    – What version of WordPress are you using?
    – What version of Gutenberg are you using? Please provide the full version number.
    – If you’re not using the latest version, please update to the latest version of the plugin and tell me if the issue persists?
    – What theme and version are you using?
    – Is the issue present with all your plugins temporarily deactivated, except Gutenberg? You can use the Health Check plugin for this, which will not change your live site – https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/
    – Is the issue present with a default theme? Again, you can use the Health Check plugin for this.
    – Does the issue happen to all posts and pages, or just a specific one?
    – What version of Chrome are you using?
    – What version of Windows are you using?

If possible, if you’d be able to make a screencast illustrating the problem and provide a link here, that would be extremely helpful. One option is the free Loom extension for Chrome.

    Thanks!

I still have this problem and sorry that I haven’t been able to help much but I have a brain tumor and need to reduce my time online. However, I can set up an account if someone wants to access my account and figure out what’s wrong.

I’m really sorry to hear you’re dealing with a health issue and haven’t been able to be online much.

For security reasons, volunteers are not allowed to request direct access to people’s dashboards, so logging into your site directly wouldn’t be an option.

You might want to try updating to the latest version of Gutenberg if you haven’t already, to see if that solves the issue!
