Hi OpaJaap. I hope all is well in your part of the world. It’s Josh Lobe, developer of Ultimate Tinymce. Long time, no talk ??

Well, I don’t know if you are aware.. but the NextGen Gallery plugin has been having some pretty extreme issues lately.

There have been a substantial number of people contact me, thinking it was my plugin. In each and every circumstance, we were able to trace the issue back to the NextGen plugin.

Now… I have been dropping your plugin name each opportunity I can get. It appears many people are “married” to NextGen… and are afraid of losing photos/galleries when switching to another plugin.

I was thinking… if you can take a look at NextGen and see where images are stored from that plugin… and find a way to “import” them into your structure… I believe you will gain a ton of new users!

    What do you think?

Of course i still know you! You helped me a lot in the past.

Brilliant idea! So, i have to investigate the internals of NextGen afterall…. That will not be my favorite spend of time but i will surely do as soon as i have the current hi priority topics done.

    Thanks, OpaJaap!

If I may be of any assistance whatsoever, please don’t hesitate to ask.

I’m not sure what happened with NextGen… but I do have quite a few threads floating around really pushing your plugin here ??

I’ll get some more feedback over the next couple of days, and see what we might be dealing with here.

I think.. if you had a “magic” button, that would import all photos created with NextGen, and put them into your directories for manipulation… that would be ideal!

Perhaps you can check NextGen; see where/how they are storing their images; and copy them into your folders.

Then, the user can access them via your control panel, and organize them however they like.

Lemme know if I can do anything for ya!

    Talk to you soon ??

To begin with: the next version will have the wp-content/gallery/… tree added in the ‘Import photos from’ selection box on the Import photos admin screen. That was not so much work. The photos are there, orginized by subdir=gallery name.

What i worry about is the meta data like descriptions, tags etc…

    Thread Starter Josh

    (@josh401)

    Gotcha.

Is the meta data something that NextGen allows you to add to each photo?

Sorry, I’ve never experimented with the NextGen plugin… but, I’m going to go install it on my test site.. and see how they are doing things.

I am gaining enthousiasm for this project.

It looks they simply use iptc/exif data, well, so can i…

You have still an admin account ( joshlobe ) on my alfa site: https://beta.opajaap.nl/ where you can follow the progressions in my programming.

See the Import page. ( The creation of the album with the ngg gallery name doesn’t work yet, its weekend and my wife needs me. How is your laptop in the bedroom?? ) You may add ngg galleries and/or wppa albums, there is over 40 gb disk space available.

If you want to help me, please find out if the root of the ngg galleries is indeed ( as i assume now ): ABSPATH.'wp-content/gallery/', if the user can change it ( maybe an option that can be tweaked?? ), and how it is on a multi site installation.

Have a nice weekend, all systems going down now, as i explained above…

Lol – Yes Yes. The wife is number one!! Never let your work interfere with the wife! You will surely suffer ??

I will check it out tonight and post back here.

    Thank you for the access!

Please have a wonderful weekend, yourself!

It looks i have the magic button working!!

    I found the setting in:

    $ngg_opts = get_option('ngg_options', false);
    if ( $ngg_opts ) $ngg_root = $ngg_opts['gallerypath'];

    the default being 'wp-content/gallery/'

    Sorry, my friend.

Would you mind using my contact form?

I wasn’t able to log into your beta environment. I tried locating the emails from our previous conversations, but I have since switched computers.

I also have a client who was very ‘hung’ on the NextGen plugin. I have convinced her to switch to your plugin… but she has some questions… and will probably be a valuable resource in “testing” these changes.

I’d like to put her in touch with you as well.
