Hot-linking issues after updating WP

All of my WP sites have lost the ability hotlink text or images???

I noticed issue all of a sudden yesterday, first time I ever experienced this issue???

I checked sites with minimal plugins as well as with a dozen, the same problem exists on all of them??

When I highlight text to add an affiliate link, the menu box does not allow the mouse cursor to be entered. At same time I noticed a “double X” in the upper right hand corner.

Does anybody have a clue?? Maybe I should back up files and simply re-install WP???
