    Help,
I have set up a brand new hosting account, installed WP version 2.8.4 and set everything up. I changed the temporary password and then proceed to log out and attempt to log back in. However, I get the following message:

“You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”

I have not installed any plugins yet, and before someone asks, yes, I am using the correct password.

Can someone please help me? I have tried reinstalling everything four times now and the same thing happens everytime.

  • Try try deleting and re-uploading the WordPress files. Make sure you use the FTP ASCII mode.

Also ensure that all of the file permissions are correct.

    esmi,
I have a fresh install currently in play. I have made no changes whatsoever, as defined in the installation guide via the WP website.

I am using FileZilla and have it set to auto transfer mode so that I can catch all of my files. Is it really necessary that I set it to ASCII mode?

No, filezilla works fine in auto. we like to mention that though for people that dont know any better.

since its a brand new blog, care to share the passwd, so we can see if its a “just you” problem or not? I never ask that but this seems like a good case for it.

Ok, I think I figured this out. I installed the plugin Bad Behavior and the user would no longer log in. Curious…

Is there another plugin that does what “Bad Behavior” does?

I am starting over for the seventh time. I am using 1and1.com as my hoster, which I have another WP site on with no issues. I will try to set everything up and not installing the plugin “Bad Behavior” and see how long it will run or if this fixes the problem.

Ok, apparently the Bad Behavior plugin was not the culprit because after running fine for the last several weeks, today it is doing it again.

I will set up a temp pwd for you guy’s the take a look and assist.

    Ok,
my login is admin and the temp pwd is “hellodolly”.

I have also attempted to upgrade to 2.8.5 and the upgrade tool just isn’t working. It stops at downloading…
