All images dissapeared from Media Library

    All of my images are suddenly missing!! They where there just a moment ago…The site just displays the little blue thumbnails and I can no longer find the actual files inside the Media Library.

    I recently changed file permissions to 777 after somebody suggested it as a solution for an error coming up that said the theme was not writable. Right after I did this the images where all there still (although it didn’t solve the error). I have changed all of the permissions back to their original values by setting XXX – the uploads folder now has 755 again, which I read elsewhere was the solution for a similar problem. Nothing changed. – I am assuming that if the problem was related to permissions though, that I would still be able to see the files, at least through FTP? I dont see any of my manually made uploads in either the Media Library or via the FTP in the Uploads folder…

    Another thing I’ve done recently is update the images of the records being offered by Top Spin through the API. As far as I remember everything was fine after. Normally this should just add an image for the new artwork and not effect existing media, done this before.

    I do have security software installed (Firewall, etc) but have had this up since before the media was added and all has been running smoothly. There have been no recent updates Ive made to the security software (Sucuri), the template (Skyfashion 2.4.1) or WordPress (2.7.1).

    Again, the files seem to be physically missing – Super confused and obviously stressed about this disappearance so if anybody has a solution that doesn’t mean manually doing everything all over again, I’d very grateful.

  • Changing permissions on a folder to 777 means that anyone anywhere can read/write/edit it. Basically, it makes it very hackable. I wonder what the intention of the OP actually was.

    There have been no recent updates Ive made to the security software (Sucuri), the template (Skyfashion 2.4.1) or WordPress (2.7.1).

    WordPress is currently at 3.7. Really, 2.7.1 is ancient, and leaves you open to all sorts of security concerns. This is probably the source of your issue. Update!

    Apologies, this was a type-o. I meant to write 3.7.1 of course, everything i’m using is up to date.

    I have solved the problem manually in the meantime by uploading everything again and creating the portfolio a new.

    Thanks for the tip about permissions, I have reset everything to default values.
