• I just updated my website’s SEO and then the admin e-mail, and suddenly when I click on anything it comes up with a window to save a file. I’ve tried various browsers, and I can’t access the site or the admin page at all. Please help!!!

NB I also updated all my plug-ins earlier today.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • when you say you “updated your sites SEO” what exactly do you mean? did you update a plugin? Please provide more details!

Here’s the sequence of events today:

    – I updated all my plug-ins that needed updating (don’t recall which ones they were)
    – I updated my SEO title and meta-description here: https://natalieparletta.com.au/wp-admin/admin.php?page=wpseo_titles#top#general
    – I updated the admin e-mail address because I realised it was still listed as the designer who help me set the site up.

I believe the problem started when I clicked on the link in the e-mail that asked me to verify the e-mail address.

I am pretty sure the email address update was not the issue… which SEO plugin are you using?

Bummer, I’m not sure. And I can’t access the admin page to check.

I just did a little bit or research using the end of the admin url you provided…
Looks like it is Yoast. You can try to ask over in their support forum https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/wordpress-seo/ but I also highly doubt that is the issue as well.

There has to be something else going on.. I suggest contacting your hosting provider’s support department for assistance.

    Okay, thanks.

I don’t know what happened but your website is outputting the file that is supposed to run and kick start the WordPress system.

Probably your best bet is to call your web host and ask for help. Your server should have run that file instead of sending it. That’s why your browser was asking you to ‘save or open’ the file.

My browser just saved it since it knew it couldn’t execute that!

That’s helpful to know, thanks for clarifying – I’ve called GoDaddy and am currently on hold…

To update, they found that one of the plug-ins disabled an important file that runs the program (ht axis?) so now all the plug-ins have to be disabled to try and work out which one caused the problem…

htaccess file – does anyone know which plug-in update might have disabled this file?
