Help! Can’t log in to wp-admin

You could use the Lost Password tool on the login page.

I tried that. It won’t accept anything I enter, I just get a repeated “ERROR: Enter a username or e-mail address”. Nothing I put in either as a user name or email address is recognized as such.

can anyone please help me? This is my main business site and I need to get in there!! Thanks in advance.

Go in to you’r MySql there you find you’r password also…You must decript that one to use.

fidelio, I have no idea what you just said! I’m a novice and don’t know anything about technical stuff. What does “decript that one to use” mean??

I did find another problem that was aggravating this. My keyboard was screwing up and typing words backwards. I replaced my keyboard, rebooted, so at least the keyboard types correctly now.

So now my problem is that WP will not recognize my user name. I type it in and it says invalid user name. But I know it’s correct, its the same as the one on my confirmation email I got when I installed the blog software. So why is it telling my my user id doesn’t exist? How do I fix this? None of the posts or help files deal with this issue, its all about password problems not user ID.

Also, where can I download a fresh copy of WP 2.6? I want to try replacing the current wp-login.php with a fresh one.

Anyone who reads this… please not THIS IS *NOT* A PASSWORD RE-SET PROBLEM!! It is a your-user-name-doesn’t-exist problem. So even if I DO have a pw problem somewhere down the line, I can’t do anything about it UNTIL I CAN LOG IN, which I can’t do until the user id issue is resolved.

If anyone has any ideas on user id disappearance please let me know!

I just tried the last thing I can do to fix this according to the help files on login trouble (replacing the wp-login.php file with a fresh one and editing one line of code) and it failed.

I’m now out of options that I can try without requiring a user id. Please please please can someone help me figure this out??

It may not seem like it, but actually, I think that’s exactly what you need to do.

No, you’re not quite at that point yet.

If you are the admin, and you can no longer access your dashboard, you need to access the database tables (wp_users), directly and find out why. Repair the admin user name and password so that you can have access again. It also might reveal information about what happened. While you are there, I suggest you look around for users you don’t recognize, and admin accounts that should not be there.

The links we gave you contain information relevant to several methods of accessing your database. I personally think that if you have phpMyAdmin available to you, that might be the easiest method by which to examine your user database and repair your admin account (follow one of the tutorials in the links). You will, however, as a first step, have to find out what MySql management tools are available to you through your hosting service, and choose the correct course of action from there.

I’m trying to access mySQL and this database thru my host’s cpanel. But they’ve just “upgraded” their format so the usual options to edit aren’t there. I need to figure out how to get in there, but I think I know what to do when I do… at least I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

Yay, problem solved! I’ve never gone into the sql areas of my sites before, and after stumbling around for a while I found the table, edited it, and now my site is mine again. Yipee!

so you reset the password – what we have been saying all along

This is not a password reset issue. I have had same issue since installing 2.7.
Mind you, that is ALL I did. Everything worked fine until I installed 2.7. Then all of a sudden, impossible to login. The login page would “refresh” and delete the password itself. Impossible to login.

After searching these forums (FAR from the friendliest place to look for topical advice), I started noticing hints here and there although nobody quite put a finger on it. Then it hit me – the only thing that made sense was that I had changed my blog to resolve to https://WWW.xxx/blog (instead of (xxx/blog).

That was causing a total freak out of the login system, causing it to redirect to infinity – but ONLY with the new install of 2.7. Again, things worked just fine for months with my URL changed to WWW. Only after installing 2.7 did this stupid thing start going bonkers.

This is obviously one of those idiotic things that the power brokers NEVER thought about before installing 2.7.

Very frustrating.

Good thing I ain’t paying for this, ‘cuz I would sure want my money back about now.

Hopefully this info can help someone else. And better yet, could somebody FIX THE STINKIN’ CODE pleeeeez?
